In 2011, I decided to do a little math. After all, it was my best subject throughout high school and my undergrad years. I was amazed at what I discovered.

It seems that, while I was delighting in the wisdom and realness of the people that came to see me, I had racked up a considerable number of hours of wisdom concerning the struggles and dilemmas that we all experience as we make our way through life.

This is what I discovered in my mathological journey. I have spent over 50,000 hours in face-to-face contact with clients. Another 800 hours facilitating groups. I have supervised students from UVIC, SFU, TRU, U of A in either or both bachelors and masters programs for a total of 1,800 hours. I have conducted over 200 hours of trainings to professional groups.

This math thing never stops! I have discovered (by adding) that I have over 7 years of specialized training – in Family of Origin Therapy (Satir), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Conduct Disorder Therapy. I attended conferences and additional trainings totaling over 2,000 hours. While doing this I managed and/or supervised through the Kamloops Centre For Therapy 25,000 additional client hours.

As an aside, for 4 1/2 years I developed, constructed, operated and managed an independent family entertainment business with an average staff of 12-20 people.

I am currently nearing the completion of a year long program at the Sauder School of Business at UBC called the Family Enterprise Advisor Program.

I am trained in working with trauma reduction, abuse, disordered eating, family of origin issues, marriage and relationship counselling, child/youth/parent conflicts, personal growth and development, depression, anxiety, stress, anger, separation and divorce, grief and loss, PTSD, and ADHD.

The therapies that I most commonly use are; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotional Process Therapy, Insight Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Systematic (Satir) Therapy..

My philosophy is to match the therapy to the client – not to fit the client to the therapeutic approach.

I feel privileged every day to be invited into the most intimate aspects of people’s lives. I treasure the confidentially of the stories I hear and I thank everyone I have ever met for the education you have given me through the pain you have experienced and the creativity you have demonstrated to survive.

I am humbled by your courage.

I plan to continue to learn from you and to pass this learning onto others. This is my commitment.
